Gidsy for Education & Learning!

In the past weeks, you have surprised us with stellar new activities every day. As the spectrum of activities broadened, we realized there was something very important missing. That’s why today we are launching our ‘Education & Learning’ category!

As one Mr. Fischer put it, “All the world is a laboratory to the inquiring mind.”

There are already many great activities listed that will now find their rightful place in the ‘Education & Learning’ category. Here are just a few examples:

Now think about all the cool things you learned yourself at one point. Those Salsa moves you picked up in Cuba, the time your dad taught you how to catch a fish or when your best friend showed you how to set up a website that doesn’t make you shrivel when looking at it. It’s time to share those skills with others.

So go ahead and create your listing in the ‘Education & Learning’ category now!

Next Stop: Los Angeles!

Attention Angelenos! We’ve got great news - Gidsy will launch in Los Angeles on February 29th!

Following NYC and San Francisco, we’re really excited to open Gidsy LA as the third American city where you can book, organize and offer unique experiences in our community marketplace. You know what they say - third time’s a charm!

…And now comes the important part: you!

If you or any of your friends living in the Greater Los Angeles area have an idea for a Gidsy event, please get in touch with us or create a listing. We’d love to feature your awesome activities on launch day!

If you’re looking for some inspiration, check out our other city pages to see what kinds of events are currently listed on Gidsy. We hope to hear from you soon!

Happy exploring,

Your Gidsy Team.

Six must-read New York blogs

New York City, with its 8 million or so inhabitants, can’t help but have good stories and pictures hiding in every corner. With a little help from our friends, we’ve put together a list of six brilliant blogs on New York City for your perusal. Enjoy!

The New York Times’ City Room blog is a nice alternative for those of us who shy away from reading the news for fear of too much death and destruction. It shows the city in a more personal light, balancing out the darker stories by highlighting interesting happenings (like peacocks escaping from the zoo) and locals’ perspectives (like a shoe repairman’s take on Wall Street’s plight).

Gidsy update: Week 7

Overnight, we launched a new beta release of Gidsy.

Some features that have just gone live are:

  • You can claim your vanity URL (gidsy.com/yourname) here.
  • Anyone can now create an account. Try it out here.
  • You can create and login to your account via Facebook now.
  • We have tweaked the forum a little bit, you can now let other users know their posts were helpful, this will help the user build up points in the community. You can also favorite posts and make them show up on your profile page. In addition we also squashed some bugs that were flying around the forum.
  • If you have created an account, you can now create an activity that is connected to that account. This helps us to get a better idea of who is signing up.

We also added a little “Feedback” button on every screen, if you come across any bugs or if you have any other feedback, let us know by clicking on it or by sending an email to support@gidsy.com

Next step: your activities.

This release is just a glimpse of what’s coming online very soon. We’ll be doing small and big updates within the upcoming weeks. One of the things you’ll be able to do very soon, is to create a proper activity and have other people subscribe to it and get notified when they can book it. Since we will be rolling out this feature for a limited amount of users. It’s very important to signup and create an activity in advance.
