Our competition winner: Chloe

And we have a winner! Fifty Facebook fans put comments on our wall last week for a chance to win a special Gidsy-edition Berlin Moleskine notebook. We had a chat with its soon-to-be owner, Chloe.Chloe Rhys
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Chloe Rhys, I am a 27 year old American, living in Paris, France for the past 14 years. I studied media and worked in television production, on the creative development end and for the web-tv Konbini.com. Today I am an editor for Amusement Magazine, a high-end lifestyle quarterly specialized in digital entertainment, video games, style and inspiration.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in New York City, Washington D.C and Paris, France.

What’s your relationship with Berlin?
It’s crazy but I haven’t even been to Berlin yet, even though I feel like I have! Many of my friends have taken a year off to study in Berlin, and have come back with very positive stories of how it is a city full of opportunities for creative people. I imagine the city as being a lot more open and forward-thinking than Paris is. Berlin, for me, represents a historic city that is looking towards the future and evolving with the times, whereas Paris is a historic city that always stays the same in an effort to preserve its historical heritage…. It’s too bad, because there isn’t that much to offer here for young, active individuals.

What do you plan to do with your Gidsy Moleskine guide?
The first thing I’ll do with my Gidsy Moleskine guide is fill out the front page that indicates how one can return it to me if I end up losing it somewhere. I have a tendancy to lose things, and I have always found the idea quite romantic, if a handsome stranger were to find my Moleskine and safely return it to me (after reading all the notes I wrote and looking at the places I circled on the maps).

What would you like to organize on Gidsy?
When I organize an event on Gidsy it will definitely be something totally different than what people are used to doing in Paris, i.e. Eiffel Tower, Seine river and museums…. For example, I would organize an original food tour of Paris of only vegetarian, organic restaurants with fresh, modern cuisine. I love eating out, and since I work A LOT - one of the things that helps me wind down is trying a couple of new restaurants each week. Since Paris is a small city, I now feel like I know all of the good ones! I am a big fan of “healthy living” so I could take a group around to try restaurants that make the best salads in Paris.

I am also a huge video game/comic book fan, so a tour of all of the memorable places in Paris for fellow geeks is definitely an original way of discovering the city. I’d bring them to the only existing arcade in Paris, to the AMUSEMENT magazine creative shop at the Gaité Lyrique, and to a host of tiny video game stores around the République area. Not sure anyone but myself would be interested - but who knows!
